💭 Consider this: How, despite His justice, has God shown you mercy? To whom, despite your own sense of justice, can you show mercy today?

📣 How can you forgive someone who has hurt you? 🤔
While it may not be the obvious lesson to draw from a group of explicit Mosaic laws, we find that one of these sentences have been wildly misinterpreted (Exodus 21:23-25). Because of this, our Lord Jesus famously addressed this error in Matthew 5:38-39 by saying, “Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also". Was Jesus contradicting Moses? If not, how are we to make sense of both Moses’ law as well as Jesus’ statement?
Sandwiched in the middle of this mini-series on the idea that God’s laws demand a punishment that fits each crime, driving us away from sin and evil, we find an equally glorious truth drawing us towards mercy and love. As usual, it is only by understanding both these Old and New Testament statements that we gain a fuller, richer picture of our relationship to God, and thus our relationships with each other.

Highlights
we want to draw spiritual lessons… as well as the reasons why God…
there is a deeper spiritual lesson here… we are not only responsible for our houses tools and other belongings but we aren’t responsible to prevent problems
- section about how Jesus was sold for the same amount of money as a servant
will you exchange Jesus Christ for anything?
we are familiar with the phrase an eye for an eye because it wa quoted by our Lord Jesus Christ in matthew 5. allow me to read for you:
does it mean that Jesus contradicts moses? most certainly not!
he corrected their misinterpretation…
- there’s something probably impt before this to include.
interestingly we only quote this phrase an eye for an eye when we are right. we won’t quote it when we are in the wrong.
jesus was saying it in tthe other way around. when we are wrong we need to make it right. but when someone does us wrong, we do not insist on justice, we have an opportunity to show mercy. in other words, rather than seeking revenge, we should be willing to show mercy. to give up our rights to make the person pay for what he has done to us.
Jesus showed us the example. did our Lord Jesus demand wound for wound? no.
you may have the right to demand justice and even seek compensation but u are willing to forego that right. u r willing to show mercy. willing to forgive. why? because u consider the great mercy and forgiveness u have received from God.
in the application of law and justice, we may have the right to demand justice. but u and i should follow our lord Jesus Christ. we follow the law of love.
