“…only last as long as the person is rich…”
Proverbs 14:20, The poor is hated even of his own neighbour: but the rich hath many friends.
The neighbour is someone who is close to us, like our friends. Today, people make friends based on many factors, like common interests and hobbies, or people whom they can share happy and sad moments with, etc. For some, there is also one reason why they want to make friends with certain people, though many may not admit to it, and that is “wealth.” That is why the rich hath many friends, while the poor is hated even of his own neighbour. Such friendship is not only superficial and untrue, but it is not lasting. It will only last as long as the person is rich!
Proverbs 19:4, Wealth maketh many friends; but the poor is separated from his neighbour.
Dear friend, some people may claim to be your friends because you are doing well in your studies, great in sports, rich in resources, and successful in your accomplishments. You may think that you have many friends. But they are only your friends because of the things you have, and once you lose those things, they are nowhere to be found. Like the poor is separated from his neighbour, they will desert you. We must avoid such materialistic friends!
