“…salvation is entirely and totally God’s choice…”
1 Peter 2:9, But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;
The believers are described as a chosen generation. People often understand the word generation as a race or a group of people living at a period of time. But the biblical meaning is very unique because it speaks of being generated, and coming out from a source. That source is none other than God Himself. In other words, we believers are a race or generation produced from the source that is God Himself.
Even before the foundation of the world, God had already chosen or elected us to be His children. Jesus said, “Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you (John 15:16). It is not because we are wise, clever and smart, and that is why we have become Christians, and are able to enjoy all the heavenly blessings.
Dear children, if that is the case, then the credit goes to man for his or her faith. If that is the case, then salvation is a human work and glory goes to man. The truth is that salvation is entirely and totally God’s choice. If we are left on our own, none of us will choose God because the Bible clearly said, “There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God (Romans 3:11).” We are a chosen generation of God’s people and children because of Him alone!
